Local SEO or simply “Local Search Engine Optimization” is often described as the local search marketing (in simple ways). It is a procedure of optimizing your online existence to attract more traffic from relevant searches. These searches can be on Google and/or on various other online search engines.

Through local SEO, you can easily promote your businesses by providing details of your services and products on a website. Local clients will see those details when they search for such products or services online. People search locally with some geo qualifiers, like their city, country, service area, and zip code, etc. Such searches also include ‘near me’ searches which allows people to search the products or services near them.

When people search products or services without mentioning any area, there are very few chances for your website to rank but it can rank easily if people search about products or services of your area and if you have provided the area details on your web pages. It is because when people search for products by mentioning a specific area, Google and/or other search engines utilize that area details and generate search results for products available in that area.

According to Forbes research, 95% of smartphone users have searched online for local businesses out of which about 59% were visitors, and about 61% contact the marketers. Moreover, SearchEngineWatch has indicated that about 70% of smartphone users contact local marketers directly from Google search results.

This shows us the importance of local SEO. Isn’t it?

Local SEO helps local businesses grow easily. It plays an important role in promoting a localized business, especially if you provide services in a wide and densely populated area.

If your business is small and new then adding the location details on your web page will help a lot promote products or services in a lesser amount of time. By doing local SEO, your website can rank for specific keywords and if it happens, you will get a lot of visitors and some of them might buy your products. This means more profit, more revenue, and more popularity!

How does it work?

Local SEO brings your business content on local search results of Google and many other search engines. It generates the visibility of your business content on location-based online searches by making the local search rankings better for you.

If you have your own business, for example, a local shop then local SEO can help you increase your sales. People will search online about products similar to yours and if you have added your product details online with your shop location then people will discover your shop with a shop locator and more traffic will come through that address. It will make more people know about your shop location and services.

On the other hand, if you don’t add the address of your shop to the web page then the main tool for optimization will only be your content. So, you should write a lot about your location for local SEO.

Difference Between SEO and Local SEO

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is the process of optimizing a web page to make it visible on the search results of Google and other search engines. The main difference between SEO and local SEO is that SEO makes a website present on the general (global) search results while local SEO makes the website present on search results which are all focused on the audience near a specific area.

SEO brings much more traffic to the website than local SEO. The keywords used for SEO are “global keywords” which means that a specific area is not mentioned in these keywords while the keywords used for local SEO always represent a specific area or business.  These factors make SEO different from local SEO.
